Ayo Edebiri, Trevor Noah Shine at the Emmys
It’s raining awards for the young American actress and television writer of Nigerian descent, Ayo Edebiri. At the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards held last weekend, Edebiri took home the award for Best Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in the series ‘The Bear.’ Edebiri has played chef Sydney Adamu in the comedy-drama series since 2022.
The awards marks the third Edebiri has earned for her role this year. She won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress -Television Series, Musical or Comedy and the Critics’ Choice Awards for Best Actress in a Comedy.
She is also nominated in the upcoming BAFTA Film Awards, and Screen Actors Guild Awards, among other awards.
The South African stand-up comedian and TV host Trevor Noah was also in the spotlight at the Emmys, taking home the award for Outstanding Talk Series for ‘The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.’
Initially scheduled to take place in September 2023, it was postponed due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes that began in May and July, respectively. The Emmys honoured the best in American prime time television programming from June 1, 2022, until May 31, 2023.
