A private jet carrying12 passengers and three crew with call sign, N580KR, yesterday overshot the runway while landing at the Chief Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan..
No casualty was reported.
Source from the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) disclosed that the aircraft, which left Abuja at about 9:15a.m. was operated by Mattini Air and the incident happened at 10:55a.m., Nigerian time.
The aircraft was said to have overshot the runway to the approach path of Runway 04 and stopped about 150 metres, as the aircraft skidded off the runway due to possible brake failure.
Firefighters and rescue officials from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) were deployed to the scene of the incident but there was no fear of fire as the aircraft body did not have contact with the runway or any other part of the airport.
“It was a private plane from Abuja. It landed safely but overshot the runway. There was no casualty,” a spokesperson for the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Carol Adekotujo, reportedly stated.
In November last year a similar incident happened when a private jet, HS25B with call sign, 5NAMM operated by Flint Aero overshot the runway at Ibadan Airport, but nobody on board or on the ground was injured.
There were seven passengers, including a minister and three crew members on the flight who were unhurt but the aircraft sustained substantial damage.
But while the incident on January 26, 2024 could be described as an incident, the Nigeria Safety and Investigation Board (NSIB) described the November 4, 2023 runway overshot as a major incident following severe damage to the body of the aircraft.
