Judge’s Order for IG to Arrest EFCC Chairman Not Vacated
The order given to the Inspector General of Police by Justice Abubakar Hussaini Musa of a High Court in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja to effect the arrest of the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, over alleged disobedience of a valid court order is yet to be vacated.
Musa was said to have refused to set aside the contempt proceedings filed against the Chairman of the EFCC, Olukoyede and the Head of the Proceeds of Crime Unit, Mr. Aliyu Yusuf.
The judge on Thursday listened to Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, who told the court that the EFCC Chairman was very sorry about the disobedience of the order of the court and promised to comply with the court order going further.
Oyedepo said the EFCC Chairman and the Attorney General of the Federation are attending a conference in the United Kingdom, which was the reason for his absence before the court.
Justice Musa was however minded to place the order in abeyance pending the time Aliyu Yusuf appears before him why he should not be arrested and committed to prison.
He however requested the Chairman of the EFCC to put his house in order as there are so many things needed to be tackled head on.
He adjourned to February 7, 2024, for the hearing of the substantive suit.
