Kaduna: From Gall To Milk and Honey
Nasir Dambatta
The progressive interface between Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State and the Qatari Charity reminds one of the relentless strivings a leader has to make to advance the cause of his people and, possibly, transform the entity he leads to the proverbial Land of Milk and Honey.
Recall that this interface took place within the first 100 days of Governor Sani.
Good governance, as Senator Sani glaringly shows, is essentially about having the clear perception of the existing and emerging needs of all classes and strata of the governed.
It is about the commitment of the governor at executing the projects and implementing the programmes and policies that facilitate the satisfaction of those needs according to available resources.
Deliverables of governance that address the key needs of the majority of the governed are akin to the proverbial Milk and Honey.
Just as Milk and Honey provide the ultimate of nourishment to whomsoever is fed with them, so do such deliverables provide the ultimate peace to the governed.
Only the deliverables that satisfy the key needs of the majority of the governed develop and transform their minds to the required catalyst for sustainable, rapid and rippling development and prosperity of the governed entity.
Sourcing the resources to satisfy those needs domestically and abroad, to augment the resources collectable as statutory allocation and internally-generated revenue, is another integral part of good governance.
Foreign interventions are veritable sources for sourcing such resources that enable committed governors to provide the governance deliverables that satisfy the key needs of the majority of the governed.
Housing, clean drinking water and policies that guarantee the ease fir the majority of the governed who, in the Nigerian context, are agrarian communities, are among the front-row key needs of the majority.
These are a part of the proverbial Milk and Honey the majority need to develop their minds for the unquantifiable contributions they are expected to make towards the development and prosperity of their land. And so, their land will be the proverbial Land flowing with Milk and Honey.
These incontrovertible postulations readily provide the scale on which Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani’s administration can be weighed in relation to the key needs of the majority of the people of the state.
With an exceptional zeal and commitment, Governor Sani has been globe-trotting in search of more resources to transform his dear state to the proverbial Land flowing with Milk and Honey.
Governor Uba Sani, accordingly, attracted from the Qatari Charity a broad intervention that covers the provision of homes for over 500,000 People In Kaduna State
100 Homes are to be built in the first phase for the highly vulnerable and less-privileged, while more homes will be built In subsequent phases. Interestingly, two of the 500,000 homes will be used as orphanages.
The charity will also include the clearing of an expansive farmland to serve as source of livelihood for the less-privileged; a Poultry Farm to complement their source of livelihood.
About 2000 orphans and children of the vulnerable and underprivileged will be on full scholarship as The Qatar Charity also supports Small Scale Businesses with startup facilities.
The charity will also dig 600 boreholes across the 23 Local Governments of Kaduna State and also build and rehabilitate Mosques across the state
By the time Governor Uba Sani was 100 days in office, he had already started transforming Kaduna State to the proverbial Land of Milk and Honey, at least for the major population of his dear state.
