RBG: The Rising Star Blending Afrobeats and Hip-Hop

Artists like Nduka Ashiedu, professionally known as RBG, are making their mark with a unique blend of contemporary Afrobeats and the lyrical composition structure of mainstream hip-hop.

Hailing from Delta State, Nigeria, RBG’s journey from the classroom to the stage is a testament to pursuing one’s passion against all odds.

Ashiedu, a talented musician and artist, pursued his education at Delta State University, where he obtained a BSc in Pharmacology and Therapeutics.

However, his heart was always in music. From primary school, Nduka had been crafting lyrics and melodies, engaging in rap battles with his elder brothers, and developing his musical talents.

Despite the demands of completing his education, Nduka’s passion for music remained unwavering.

He expressed: “I have always been a songwriter since I was little trying to outbattle my elder brothers in rap competitions we always staged while growing up,” he says.

“It was only a matter of time before he decided to follow his heart and pursue a career in the music industry.”

RBG, a versatile Afrobeats artist, has graced the stage at numerous events across Delta State, leaving audiences mesmerised with his unique sound and captivating performances.

“I have always had influences from my cousin who was a choirmaster and lived with us,” RBG shares, reflecting on his musical upbringing. This influence, coupled with his drive and talent, has propelled him into the music scene.

In April 2022, RBG introduced the world to his newly crafted sound with the release of his EP, aptly titled “DELTA.”

This project marked a significant milestone in his career, showcasing his commitment to carving out a niche for himself in the music industry.

The EP allowed him to express his unique blend of contemporary Afrobeats and hip-hop influences, setting him on a path to musical recognition.

RBG’s journey is far from over. He is currently working on an EP titled “You Don’t Need to Feel Alone,” slated for release this year.

This project promises to be a breath of fresh air, delving into themes of clear communication and honesty in relationships.

“The whole idea was to make music that feels like therapy while also being able to be a vibe,” RBG shares.

His dedication to authenticity and emotional depth in his music is evident in every note.

Like many artists, RBG faces challenges in the music industry, particularly the high costs associated with promotions and the need for proper management aligned with his vision.

“Sometimes it’s hard to be consistent with the high prices of promotions in the music industry,” he acknowledges.

However, his determination to have his stories heard and his craft recognised fuels his journey.

RBG’s advice to fellow musicians is to embrace their uniqueness, finding their voice and story.

In a genre that thrives on individuality, RBG encourages artists not to shy away from telling their own stories authentically.

In the world of music, RBG is a rising star whose blend of Afrobeats and hip-hop is capturing hearts and ears globally.

With his dedication and unique sound, RBG is poised to make a lasting impact on the music scene, proving that authenticity and passion are the keys to success in the industry.
