Experts have challenged academic researchers to wake up to economic challenges in the country.

They stressed that expectations were high of them to resolve anomalies around the economy.

Specifically, the experts want researchers to break new ground in research by exploring gaps and unresolved questions in the social system.

Speaking at the second edition of Research Seminar, organised by OGE Research Initiative, President of the initiative, Prof. Godwin Oyedokun, maintained that research was crucial in policy formulation to enable growth across the board.

The economist stated further that for research to meet social demands, it must be done right, starting with the title.

“The importance of a well-crafted research title cannot be overstated. Research title should be innovative and covers areas not yet explored.

“There are several macroeconomic questions begging for answers. We need to look into these areas and answer the questions via purposeful research,” he said.

Continuing, he hinted that a thorough review of literature and consultation with advisors and experts were ways with which academics can detect unresolved questions and gaps.

“Researchers can do a thorough review of existing literature to understand works that are already done in a particular field. This can help to identify research trends and gaps, which can inform a title. Moreover, seeking advice from experts and brainstorming with peers also go a long way in breaking new ground in research”.

Also speaking, Vice Chancellor, Prime University, Prof. Muhammad A. Mainoma, asserted that a research topic must be relevant and have either local, national or international interest.

“When choosing a topic, researchers must also bear in mind factors like significance, social considerations, relevance and currency, feasibility and scope as well as opportunities”, he said.
