The Founder of Mudiame University and aspirant for the upcoming Edo State governorship election on the platform of Labour Party (LP), Prof. Sunday Eromosele Eboh, has assured that he would return governance to the grassroots.
This is as the gubernatorial aspirant and Senator representing Edo Central, Senator Monday Okpebholo, yesterday, described Edo Central’s strategic support for Edo South in 2012, 2016 governorship election and the 2020 APC gubernatorial ticket as a defining factor in the state’s politics and appealed to the party to rally round his aspiration as the 2024 primaries approaches.
Continuing, Eboh, assured to increase the standard of living of the people of the state, while ensuring the security of the lives of the people and the environment.
He gave the assurances at the headquarters of the Labour Party on Thursday in Abuja when he came to pick his nomination form after paying N30 million nomination and expression of interest fees.
The academia who is one of the hopefuls for the office under the LP umbrella, said that his campaign slogan, “RISE” stands for empowerment of the state.
According to him, “I’m bringing on board a governance that will care for the people and care for the society. I have done it before,” he added.
The governorship aspirant who was accompanied to the party secretariat by his supporters further added, “I’m excited to be in the race because I have an agenda that aligns with the ideals of policies of governance. Edo State needs to be recalibrated.
“The people are not part of the policies. The people are not part of the governance. And so, I am blessed that the people of Edo State are ready to take over the Edo State Labour Party.
“What are the challenges in Edo State today? It’s very simple. It’s poverty. Edo State is facing poverty challenges. And my agenda is to take the people from the floor to the upper.
“And that is why I said RISE to rescue people from poverty, to increase the standard of the people, rise to secure the people and the environment, rise to empower the people.
“And that is what RISE stands for. So I’m bringing on board a governance that will care for the people and care for the society. I have done it before. And people are saying, oh.”
He maintained that Labour Party is a great party and it’s one of the parties to beat in the 2024 election.
Meanwhile, Okpebholo while addressing journalists in Benin City on the side line of his visit to leaders of the party in the seven local government areas of Edo South senatorial district, said it’s time to reciprocate Edo Central support and for sake of fair play, equity and justice,
“As often said, one good turn deserves another. Edo Central have always played a pivotal role in propelling Edo South to the governorship, beginning in 2012 there is need for a united front in achieving political success for the entire state.”
The federal lawmaker popularly known as ‘Akpakomiza’ argued that history repeated itself in 2020 as Edo Central threw its weight behind Edo South in clinching the coveted APC gubernatorial ticket.
He added: “With the 2024 party primaries on the horizon, it is natural that Edo South APC return the support it has received from us in Edo Central in the past, for equity and justice in the political process by rallying behind an aspirant like me from Edo Central.
“I am more than qualified and a very credible aspirant hailing from Edo Central. As the current Senator representing the zone, I am bringing a wealth of experience and a track record of effective representation.
“Having travelled across the state, I also have a deep understanding of the challenges facing Edo and this makes me the ideal candidate to lead our party and state.”
