A frontline Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in the Edo State forthcoming governorship election, Osaro Onaiwu, has on behalf of the eight faithful and loyal PDP gubernatorial aspirants in state, who have been fighting against the ‘flawed’ ward congress of the party last weekend, called on the state Governor, Godwin Obaseki, and his aides to end “the baseless blackmail by spreading rumours that they are sponsored by the G5 Governors.
“Contrary to the false narrative being peddled by the governor and his team to canvass for the support of Alhaji Atiku Abubarkar,” Onaiwu emphasised that the aspirants are not supported by the G5 Governors, adding that as a former director-general of the PDP Governors Forum, he enjoys a relationship with the G5 Governors.
He said: “Is it not ironic that Dr. Peter Mbah, governor of Enugu State, who midwifed the flawed congress, is a product of G5?”
Onaiwu revealed that he played a prominent role in the presidential campaigns of Atiku Abubakar in the 36 states of the federation in both 2019 and 2023 without blemish, asserting that he cannot be blackmailed for his unwavering loyalty to the party.
Accordingly to him, “Obaseki and his aides were welcomed into this party by us, and we cannot abandon our party for them.”
He highlighted the fact that they have been committed members of the party long before the Governor Obaseki joined them, and their loyalty to the party remains unwavering.
In addition, Onaiwu commended Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State for his display of courage in being the first to raise concerns about the flawed and one-sided arrangements of the ward congress, explaining that this display of courage is laudable and shows the true character of a committed party member.
The PDP aspirant fervently called on all party faithful, former PDP Senate presidents, and former PDP presidential aspirants to unite and speak out against the injustice prevailing in Edo State, stressing that: “It is imperative that we stand together in solidarity to ensure justice and fairness in the party’s internal processes.”
Onaiwu reiterated his commitment to the People’s Democratic Party, and urged all members to remain steadfast in their belief in the ideals of the party. He acknowledged the challenging times ahead but emphasised that unity and resilience will ultimately lead them to victory.
