Updated: Super Eagles Advance to 2023 AFCON Final

Nigeria’s Super Eagles booked their place in the final of the 34th Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday evening in Bouake, Côte d’Ivoire with a 4-2 defeat of South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in penalty shootouts.

Regulation and extra time amounting to 120 minutes deadlocked 1-1 without a clear winner.

In the shootouts, Bafana Bafana missed two kicks as against only Ola Aina that fired his penalty wide over the bar.

Both goals in the regulation time were equally scored via penalty kicks.

Nigerian Captain, William Troost-Ekong, tucked into the net the resulting penalty from the fouling of Victor Osimhen in the box in the 67th minute.

While Nigerians were celebrating an Osimhen added goal deep in the second half, VAR replay of Alhassan Yusuf’s kicking of Percy Tau in the Nigerian box gifted the South Africans a penalty.

It was perfectly tucked into the Nigerian net by Teboho Mokoena in the 90th minute for the semi final to drag into extra time.

Nigeria will meet the winner of the Côte d’Ivoire versus DR Congo second semi-final which kicked off late Wednesday night.
