ICPC Opens Anti-Corruption, Transparency Unit in Unizik

The Independent Corrupt Practices and other Offences Related Commission (ICPC) has inaugurated an Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) in Nnamdi Azikiwe University (Unizik), Awka as part of measures to ensure to promote transparency and shun corruption.
The inauguration, which was held at the council chambers of the university yesterday, witnessed the administering of oath of office on the committee members.
The committee that would be led by Dr. Stephen Ufoaroh would ensure transparency and accountability in line with global best practices in the daily administrative affairs of every department, faculties, units and directorates in the institution.
The committee was also charged with the job of sensitising staff members of the institution on global best practices.
The Vice-Chancellor of Unizik, Professor Charles Esimone, who spoke during the inauguration, said: “The essence of the inauguration is to ensure seamless and smooth operational services by members of staff of the institution in their respective directorates, units, departments and faculties.
“This administration is hinged on administrative reforms, academic excellence, innovation, research and community service.
“Members of this committee were carefully selected based on their previous records in administration and track record in service.
“I congratulate you all and urged you to put in your best towards service delivery to the institution and the education sector at large.”
Other members of the committee are Professor Uche Eunice Ekpunobi of the Dept. of Pure and Industrial Chemistry; Dr. Chinyere Esimone of the Music Department; Rev. Fr. Dr. I. Onwuatuegwu from Philosophy Department) and Dr. Godwin Obasikene of Medicine and Surgery Department.
Others are Professor Machebe Victor Ozioko, Faculty of Law); Mr. Paul Ifezue, Director, Internal Audit; Dr. Jude Okoye, Faculty of Law; Rev. Sr. Patricia Oranefo, Accountancy Department while while Mr. Edward Kalu Okereke of the Personnel Unit is acting as the Secretary of the committee.
