Recently, GreenLight Initiative, with support from the Nigeria Youth Future Fund and LEAP Africa, has paid a visit to Hon. Clement Jimbo on Wednesday towards its transformative project, “Catalyzing Youth Actions for Accountability in Governance.”

The Initiative, according to a statement signed by the Communication Officer, GreenLight Initiative, Patience Agabi, is aimed at addressing the challenges hindering Nigerian youth from presenting a united front in governance accountability.

The recent visit to the member of the House of Representatives representing the Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika Federal Constituency and Deputy Chairman of National Planning and Economic Development, Hon. Jimbo, serves as an opportunity to engage with him on the pressing issues surrounding youth disenchantment and lack of accountability in governance, particularly in the aftermath of the recent general election in Nigeria.

The discourse centered on the perceived failure of elected leaders to fulfill their campaign promises, leading to a decline in youth engagement in political activities.

During the meeting, Hon. Clement Jimbo emphasized the importance of youths holding their leaders accountable. He highlighted the significance of the Zonal Intervention Project (ZIP), earmarked by every House member to be sited in their constituency, as a starting point for youth-led accountability initiatives. With 360 federal constituencies in Nigeria, Hon. Jimbo stressed the need for every youth to be aware of their ZIP and utilize it as a tool to hold their representatives accountable.

Furthermore, Hon. Clement Jimbo pledged his support to stand by youths where necessary in their pursuit of holding leaders accountable. He reiterated the importance of starting at the constituency level to drive effective change in governance accountability.

GreenLight Initiative commends Hon. Clement Jimbo for his commitment to fostering youth accountability in governance and looks forward to continued collaboration to create a more accountable and inclusive political landscape for the youth of Nigeria.

As the “Catalyzing Youth Actions for Accountability in Governance” project unfolds, stakeholders, policymakers, and the public are urged to reflect on the importance of cultivating an informed and engaged youth population. Active participation and accountability are paramount to preserving democratic ideals and effectively addressing the aspirations of Nigerian youth.
