The Emmanuel Osemota Foundation (EOF), through its Girl Child Initiative outreach, has taken its sexual abuse and anti-human trafficking messages to Secondary Schools in Edo State.

The outreach, which berthed at the Anglican Girls’ Grammar School (AGGS) Benin City, also centered its campaign messages on sexual abuse.

It also distributed menstrual hygiene items like sanitary pads alongside stationery for their seamless learning.

The non-governmental organisation with a focus on empowering local communities in Africa and across the world on self-sustaining through education and high-quality healthcare was also supported by the Conscious Cycles of University of South Florida, Tamp; and Dr. Lynne Dieckman of Creighton University, Omaha, United States.

In his presentation to journalists, the Founder of EOF, Emmanuel Osemota said with the nation’s economy bleeding daily, leaving citizens in anguish, the foundation is not retreating in its goal to impact the girl child through its Girl Child Initiative outreach by focusing on providing succour, education, and support.

Osemota, a US-based Epidemiologist, further noted that as a foundation, “we uphold that empowering the girl child leads to a healthier and more productive society, nation, and world.

“Hence, we put together this outreach to encourage access to quality education from an early age and provide access to better menstrual hygiene”.

According to him, “In doing this noble deed, as some call it, we are breaking gender disparity. We will continue to nip poor menstrual health in the bud in Edo State, Nigeria.”

Besides, the foundation also featured other initiatives centered on the girl-child, tailored to teenage girls to empower them by illuminating their minds with insightful lectures centered on human trafficking, sexual abuse, and menstrual hygiene.

For instance, the lecture titled: “Menstrual Hygiene”, was delivered by Nurse Excel Chidubem, while the topic on “Human Trafficking” was delivered by Dr. Karo Onoroise.

There was also a quiz competition to spice up the programme where three students of the school emerged as winners.

Those that emerged winners are Abulimeh Miracle (1st Position); Nduka Gabriella (2nd Position Matthias Testimony (3rd Position).

The climax of the event was the presentation of laptops to three students who won the quiz competition, as well as the distribution of free sanitary pads, books, and pens to all the students.
