Afe Babalola Advises New Doctors Against ‘Japa’
Gbenga Sodeinde in Ado Ekiti
The founder and Chancellor of the university, Aare Afe Babalola (SAN), has counselled the newly inducted medical doctors of the university to shun the popular ‘japa’ syndrome.
Just as the overall best student, Chukwuma Nanyaerougo, who plans to travel abroad for higher Knowledge in an integrated general medical course, promised to return to the country after his studies to give back to his society, the university, which made him and his larger society in Nigeria.
The university recently held its sixth induction ceremony for 161 new medical doctors it produced. Twelve Inductees got distinctions, while the overall best-graduating student made five distinctions even as the university just clocked 14 years.
The founder, who described the event as an unprecedented record that would be difficult to beat, appealed to the inductees to join the habit of distinguishing themselves in their career and make the university proud as others who have graduated before have made the university proud.
Babalola said, “I am not unaware that the country is going through a difficult time with regard to insecurity, corruption, scarcity of money, fuel scarcity, unemployment, poor infrastructure, high rate of inflation, very poor foreign exchange rate, huge debt burden and the ‘japa’ syndrome I advise you not to be discouraged.
The best overall inductee, Nnanyereugo, said, “I’m very happy today. There’s no word to express my delight following my emergence as the best graduating medical student. If I were to sum up all my feelings right now, it would be ‘finally’.”
