IG: Police to Establish Special Intervention Squad in Bauchi, Nine Other States

The Inspector General of Police (IG) Kayode Egbetokun, has Identified Bauchi as one of the 10 pilot states for establishment of Special Intervention Squad (SIS).
This is as Bauchi State governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has declared the interest of his administration towards deploying technology for effective fight against all forms of criminality in the state.
The SIS is a new security initiative introduced by the IG in a quest to effectively respond to all forms criminality across the country.
Egbetokun, who made this known when he led top officers of the force on a courtesy visit to Governor Mohammed in Bauchi yesterday said that the state was chosen in view of its strategic advantage in addressing security challenges in northern parts of the country.
He explained that the Police SIS will be saddled with the responsibility of responding promptly to all security crises thereby ensuring total elimination of criminal activities in trouble areas.
“Today is my first official visit to Bauchi in my capacity as Inspector General of Police. Your Excellency, I am happy to report to you that, Bauchi is one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria due to your hardworking and collaborative effort between the governor and the police.”
He added: “This Police SIS would be selected based on commitment to duty, and would be trained and motivated and as such would not be participating in any routine operation so as to effectively response to crises.”
He then appreciated the unwavering commitment of the present administration of Governor Mohammed towards the protection of lives and property of the citizens through supporting police and other services to perform effectively.
While commending Governor Mohammed for providing all the needed support to the activities of the Nigerian Police Force in the state, the IG also applauded the governor for the many developmental projects executed across the state to enhance the living condition of the people.
Responding, Governor Mohammed, who described the IG’s intervention as commendable, assured him of the support of his administration towards the success of all initiatives aimed at protecting lives and properties of the citizens.
Mohammed welcomed the establishment of the Police SIS in Bauchi and promised to support the initiative for the promotion of peace and security in the state.
He applauded the IG for the number of innovations initiated to improve efficiency in the force in a move to meet the security needs of Nigerians.
He, however, urged the IG to further support the state police command with state of the art facilities for enhanced operations.
The governor stressed the need for the Nigeria Police Force to establish more outpost and formations across the state to assist in addressing the numerous security challenges facing the state and the country.
He commended the IG for his efforts in addressing the challenges facing the country and that more needed to be done to tackle the challenges.
