The Gods are Not to Be Blamed… Between Godswill and Godwin

So much depends upon a name, including a peek into the thoughts of the parents. With Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and the immediate-past Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele, one can see that their parents possessed a sanctifying attitude towards naming them. But has it worked and how well have both men exhibited God’s will and victory in their respective offices?

It is easy to diagnose the case of Akpabio who is currently enjoying the conditions of the Senate presidency. With a fat salary and a tightly regulated physical and social environment, Akpabio is the new kind of aristocrat: always happy and jolly. And when blame comes, as it does now, he redirects it to the nearest person, in this case, Emefiele

A few days ago, Akpabio reportedly stated that the current hardship in Nigeria is no fault of President Bola Tinubu. The latter inherited it from the mess that Emefiele cooked up, Akpabio said. By doing so, Akpabio effectively pushed all blame regarding Nigeria’s present crises onto the shoulders of Emefiele.

Quickly responding, the legal representatives of Emefiele accused Akpabio of defaming the former CBN governor. According to them, considering Akpabio’s knowledge and experience, it is odd that he does not know that he cannot say such things, especially since Emefiele is currently defending himself against them in a court of law.

The lawyers presented Akpabio with two choices: either he apologise to Emefiele in writing (which will be published in the media) or gets ready to meet them in court as they tighten their buckles to fling a N25 billion lawsuit his way.

Although Akpabio did not immediately respond, his initial bombshell of a comment has been received on social media as his first move. Per Akpabio, Godwin is to blame; per Emefiele, Godswill lied; to which social commentators insist that these little ‘gods’ are having a field day at the expense of Nigerians.
