The Plateau State chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has disclosed that it has concluded arrangements to join the national secretariat and other state councils to peacefully protest against the prevailing economic hardship in Nigeria, adding that nothing will stop the chapter from joining its counterparts in other state.
The NLC has declared a two-day warning protest scheduled to hold between February 27 and 28 amidst rumours that the protest might not hold because of some security concerns.
But the Plateau State NLC Chairman, Mr. Eugene Manji, Monday reassured members of the chapter that they will participate in the protest, adding that the decision at its State Executive Council meeting was for the chapter to join the protest, even as arrangement has been put in place to make it a peaceful exercise.
Manji said that all NLC affiliates had been briefed and had been urged to fully mobilise their members for the protest slated for Tuesday and Wednesday.
He said: “We have just completed the meeting for the final mobilisation.
“As I speak to you, we are still at the venue of the meeting, and we are going ahead with the protest tomorrow.
“We are urging all affiliates to come out in their numbers to participate in the protest in support of the workers and suffering masses.”
The chairman said that adequate security personnel would be mobilized to ensure that hoodlums did not take advantage of the protest.
According to him, the NLC will meet with security agencies later on Monday to conclude on the arrangements.
