Kunle Afolayan’s Movie Premiere Dominates Social Media

Ace actor and filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan hosted the premiere of his upcoming series, Anikulapo: The Rise of the Spectre’, at the Sheraton Hotel, Lagos last Sunday. The six-part series, a spinoff of the 2022 epic movie, ‘Aníkúlápó’, directed by Afolayan, started screening on Netflix yesterday.

Graced by seasoned Nollywood actors and top personalities in the entertainment industry, the movie premiere has dominated social space. An incident involving Afolayan and his beautiful daughter, Eyiyemi at the after-party had sparked reactions shortly after the show and trended all through the week.

Afolayan was captured dancing with his daughter, Eyiyemi, who also features prominently in the series. Eyiyemi is Afolayan’s first child and she made her debut appearance as an actor on the set of the original ‘Anikulapo’, taking on the role of Princess Omowunmi,

Their dance mode, which one sees as staged, seemed to be misinterpreted and caught the attention of online users, who feel it was “inappropriate”. Some even went as far as describing it “incestuous”, others see it as raunchy and a couple of others call it romantic, reminiscent of one shared by partners.

But it was intentional that the dance moves between the father and daughter had to trend just so to elicit the interest of many who are already looking forward to the movie. His beautiful daughter, who is also a good singer, is definitely making inroads at acting.

Once explaining her role in the movie, Afolayan said, “If you want to portray the role of a Princess, I think there is no giving that the person has to be beautiful and she (Eyiyemi) is beautiful. It felt good because I did not have to pay her, even though I was paying her directly or indirectly.”
