Rivers Utd Beat Ghana’s Dreams FC to Reach Q’final of CAF Confed Cup

Nigeria’s last team standing in continental campaign this term, Rivers United, defeated Ghana”s Dreams FC 2-1  to book their place in the quarter-final of the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday evening. 

The win inside the God’swill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo edged Tunisian giants Club Africain from reckoning. 

Evans Ogenyi’s side had to come from behind after Abdul Aziz Issah gave the Ghanaian the lead in the 40th minute.

In the 61st minute, Andy Okpe set up Deputy Echeta for the equaliser.

On the brink of elimination, Kazie Godswill scored the winning goal with virtually the last chance of the game in the additional minutes of the second half.

Rivers United topped Group C with 12 points on head-to-head, the same points as Dreams FC, while Club Africain bowed out of the tournament, after a 1-1 draw with Academica of Angola to finish third with 10 points.

Academica which also picked their first point of the group stage bid the tournament farewell.

Rivers United crashed out in the quarter-final of the CAF Confederation Cup last season to Tanzania side, Young Africans.

This time, they will hope to reach the semi-final and continue to flag the West African nation’s flag as the sole representative.
