Gearshift Africa Invites Aspiring Writers to Showcase Talent

Gearshift Africa has called for applications for the Nwamaka Okoye Literature Prize, inviting aspiring writers from across Nigeria to participate and showcase their creativity and literary prowess.
The Nwamaka Okoye Literature Prize seeks to celebrate the richness of literary expression and provide a platform for emerging writers to shine.
With categories in both poetry and short stories, the competition offers an opportunity for writers to explore diverse styles and narratives with the theme ‘Coming of Age’.
The competition is open to writers of all backgrounds, levels of experience, and from age 16.
Submissions will be judged by a panel of esteemed writers and literary experts, with prizes awarded to winners in each category.
Other key details of the competition include: Original and unpublished entries with word limit of 2,500 (short story), 40 lines (poetry). Multiple entries are allowed
Entry/administrative fee is NGN 2,000 (applicants may apply for a fee waiver see website for more details)
Deadline for Submissions: March 1st – March 31st, 2024.
First Place: NGN 500,000 cash prize + publication in Gearshift Africa’s anthology.
Second Place:NGN 300,000 cash prize + publication in Gearshift Africa’s anthology while the third place gets NGN 200,000 cash prize + publication in Gearshift Africa’s anthology
