Benue Government Vows to Overhaul Education, Boost Teacher Morale With Automate Salaries

The Benue State Government has stated its commitment to revamping the basic education system within the state, with a focus on enhancing teacher morale.

Speaking on Tuesday in Makurdi, the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Secretary, Dr Joseph Jande, and other board members announced that plans are on the way to automate primary school teachers’ salary payments.

They emphasized their collaborative efforts to address inherited challenges since assuming office in December 2023, aiming to improve administrative efficiency and infrastructure within the board.

Additionally, they acknowledged past issues faced by teachers, such as salary deductions without valid reasons, which they aim to resolve through the salary automation system.

The board members highlighted the unity among themselves and the executive chairman, attributing it to the innovative strides being made, including payroll automation and headquarters renovation with board approval.

“We are doing our best to make sure that the problems we met on the ground are tackled. We want to ensure that members of staff are diligent in their work and that the basic education system in Benue State is properly positioned

Also, a member representing Benue North East senatorial district on the board, Paul Ebe regretted that before now, primary school teachers had been contending with several issues among them the deduction of their salary without any reason.

Ebe said, “With the commencement of the automation of teachers’ salaries the issues we had in the past including the deduction of teachers’ salaries without cogent reasons will be a thing of the past, there will be no problems with salary payment anymore.”

In his contribution, another member of the board, Prince Andy Uwouku said that there is synergy among the members right from the executive chairman, a reason he said was responsible for the innovation being carried out by the board.

Uwouku said, “We have commenced the automation of the payroll of teachers as well as the complete renovation of the headquarters and provision of facilities all with the approval of the board”.
