HACEY Organizes a Session at the 68th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in New York

HACEY is convening a pivotal session at the 68th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in New York.

In a statement, it was noted that the session, themed: “Accelerating the Achievement of Gender Equality: Increasing Financing for Preventing and Response to Gender Based Violence (GBV)” would bring together experts in gender, financial inclusion, and policymakers to address the critical issue of funding gaps in gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and response efforts.

The statement noted that despite increased awareness and efforts to combat GBV, there remains a significant deficit in financing for prevention and response interventions.

According to UN Women, less than 1 percent of global donor funding is directed towards preventing gender-based violence, severely hindering progress towards achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment.

The statement said HACEY is championing the urgent need for increased investment to effectively address GBV and promote gender equality worldwide.

The statement further explained that the event is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, March 20th, at 10:00 AM ET at the King Baudouin Foundation/Myriad USA, located at 551 Fifth Avenue, Suite 2400, New York, NY 10176.

According to the statement, “satellite sessions will be held simultaneously in Lagos state and Ibadan, Nigeria, emphasizing the global reach and significance of this discussion.

“Keynote speakers at the event include Dr. Emma Fulu, Executive Director of The Equality Institute, who will address the audience on “Increasing Financing for Preventing and Responding to GBV: A Key Strategy for Advancing Gender Equality.”

The statement remarked that the opening remarks would be delivered by Omobolanle Victor-Laniyan, Head of Sustainability at Access Corporation, setting the stage for an insightful and impactful dialogue.

Executive Director of HACEY, Rhoda Robinson, emphasized the urgency of addressing GBV, stating, “Every act of gender-based violence is a violation of basic human rights and dignity. We must work towards building a future where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued, regardless of their gender.”

Continuing, the statement added: “We cannot stand idle while individuals suffer in silence due to gender-based violence. It’s imperative that stakeholders prioritize mobilizing resources and strengthening financial mechanisms for preventing and responding to GBV.

“By doing so, we can accelerate progress towards gender equality”
