Funmi Ogundare
The Vice-Chancellor of Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun, Prof. Ademola Tayo, has called on the institution’s graduating class to create opportunities, carve a niche for themselves, and take hold of the dreams they will nurture to fulfilment.
Tayo, who said this at the 2024 career fair for students, admonished them to push beyond the boundaries of their limitations and keep away from people who belittle or attempt to snuff out their dreams.
He emphasised the importance of career development and growth nurtured with the right balance of discipline and love, saying It is also an opportunity to celebrate shared values.
“No matter how clear your career path may seem today, whether it is in the classroom or outside, you need strong winds underneath your wings to navigate the stormy skies of today’s world,” the vice-chancellor stressed. “Seize the moment, pursue your dreams and earn the knowledge you need to soar above the drag of everyday life.”
An alumnus of the university and the Senior Special Adviser to the President on National Assembly Matters (House of Representatives), Dr. Olanrewaju Ibrahim, admonished them on the biggest lessons, skills and experiences they needed to learn.
He urged the students to start something independently rather than wait until they get jobs, saying,” Don’t miss out on opportunities; your parents have done enough for you. It is time to do something for yourself. Be appointed in your capacity, and you will be able to grow better in life. Don’t be ashamed to learn, as no knowledge is lost.”
Another alumnus and Chief Executive Officer of Teach For Nigeria, Ms Folawemimo Omikunle, also recalled how her career in education and development started at Imperial Springs School, where she served as an administrator until 2012. She described her story as one of passion, resilience, and a relentless pursuit of positive change.
She admonished them to look for opportunities to serve, adding that many graduates have joined her organisation to do so.
