Layi Wasabi Stars In New Netflix Ad
Layi Wasabi, Nigeria’s skit sweetheart, takes center stage in a new comedic ad for Netflix Sports alongside other comedy stars, Solomon More and Mammito Eunice.
Layi Wasabi has been featured in a new light-hearted ad for Netflix Sports. The one-minute ad, which stars Layi Wasabi, alongside South African television personality, Solomon More, and Kenyan comedienne and actor, Mammito Eunice, has been well-received by fans of all three stars on social media with about two million plays since it went live.
The highly entertaining ad has all subjects attempt to undertake the training routines of global sport stars Erling Harland, Rory Mcllroy, and Serena Williams, and failing spectacularly to the chagrin of their trainers.
The skit star shared that the ad was a refreshing opportunity to do something different. “This Netflix Sports’ ad was a blast to film! It was a refreshing opportunity to step outside the box and showcase a different side of comedy, and it’s incredible to see the positive response from fans pouring in on social media. I’m thankful to Netflix for giving me the chance to work with other talented individuals as well as showcase my comedic talents on a global platform.”
Layi, who’s 22 years old is one of the most sought after digital creators in the country. His witty personality and unique talent has quickly turned him into one of the funniest and in-demand stars in the Nigerian digital space, earning him roles beyond just skits to other entertainment niches.
The law graduate has so far starred in two big Netflix productions, Aníkúlápó and Adire, as well as Japa, which is streaming exclusively on Prime Video. He’s also featured in other high-profile ads like the Nigeria’s Most Wanted Tour for musical acts Shalipopi and Odumodublvck, where he plays the role of a journalist; and Slurpy Life with Veteran comedian, Basketmouth.
Olufemi Oguntamu, Layi’s manager, shared that this feature exemplifies his rising status as a sought-after talent in Nigeria’s entertainment industry. “Layi’s feature on this ad is a testament to his innate ability to entertain regardless of the medium. His ability to seamlessly transition from skits to other types of content like ads and even movies, showcases his versatility and appeal to diverse audiences,” he said.
