The convener of Concours D’orthographe, Ngozi Nympha Eyo, explained that organising the spelling competition in French was to encourage the learning of the french language by creating an avenue of excitement and fun in learning the language.
The CEO of Naphy Language Academy said the idea behind the spelling competition “is to encourage the learning of French,” the second-world accepted language, within the Anglophone-speaking countries.
The special guest of honour, the chairman/CEO of Tom Juns Consultants and the chairman of the board of trustees of Alliance Française Lagos, Mrs. Tosin Bakare, said the spelling competition was a way of giving back to the society and to encourage the learners.
A participant, Kafinyin Orioye from Laraday School, said, “This is a good competition, and I am happy to participate. I hope to take top during next year’s edition.”
Madame Eyo reiterated the need of financial support to help run such competition and called on the government and individual sponsors to support the program (which is done annually) as she sees a bright future and desire to learn from the children.
This edition had more than 100 children participating from 35 schools within Lagos.
She also plans to take it to other states within the country.
