Nigeria’s Human Rights Lawyer, Gladys Emmanuel to speak at the International Conference on Law and Technology in India
Nigerian Human Rights Lawyer and Gender Equality Advocate, Barr. Gladys Emmanuel has been confirmed as one of the Guest speakers for the 3rd Edition of the International Conference on Law and Technology scheduled to hold in New Delhi, India.
The two-day conference, organised by the School of Law, of The NorthCap University, Gurugram-India in collaboration with UDF Centro Universitário, Brazil, and Centre for Cyber laws, Delhi, will hold on April 6th and 7th, 2024.
The event, themed ‘Navigating the Digital Frontier’ features a lineup of scholars, researchers, practitioners, academicians, and students pursuing law or related degrees from across the globe, who will contribute to the evolving dialogue on critical topics such as the application of technology in criminal justice, AI, privacy, data protection, cyber security, IoT, and the impact of social media on freedom of speech.
Alongside Barr. Gladys Emmanuel, other Guest Speakers confirmed to appear at the conference include: Prof Ivona Shushak Lozanovska – (Vice Dean for Academic Affairs at the Faculty of Law, UKLO-Bitola, Republic of North Macedonia, Greece), Prof Angelo Vigilianisi Ferraro – (Hailing from the Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria, Italy), and Mr. Jordan Fletcher – (Principal at Fletcher Law, PLLC, New York).
Gladys Emmanuel
Gladys Emmanuel is a distinguished Nigerian Human Rights Lawyer and Gender Equality Advocate, holding degrees in Law from the University of Jos, Plateau State, and the Nigerian Law School in Baguada-Kano State, Nigeria. Additionally, she earned a postgraduate degree in Human Rights Law from Cardiff University, Wales-United Kingdom. With a career spanning advocacy, policy analysis, and partnership building, Gladys has demonstrated expertise in addressing gender-based violence, women and girls’ rights, child protection, and broader human rights issues. She excels in navigating complex environments and fostering impactful partnerships to drive positive change.
Currently serving at the Tabitha Empowerment Centre (TEC), Gladys leads advocacy efforts and directs program development to combat violence against women and girls. Her commitment to Human Rights, Women’s Rights, Gender issues, and Justice has afforded her opportunities to contribute her voice and expertise on both international and local platforms. Notable engagements include being featured as the “Woman of the Sun” in Sun newspaper (National daily) and serving as a resource person at the School of Law, The Northcap University in India.
In recognition of her outstanding contributions, Gladys received the 30(Ish) awards from Cardiff University, Wales-United Kingdom, in 2022. This accolade honoured her as a “Community Activist” for her tireless efforts in combating gender-based violence. Her dedication extends beyond advocacy, as she initiated a virtual mentorship program for law students, lawyers, and human rights enthusiasts, providing mentorship from esteemed professionals in academia, research, policy analysis, legal practice, and clergy within the human rights landscape.
Furthermore, Gladys is a researcher, having authored academic papers such as “The Problem in Supporting Trafficked Children in the United Kingdom” and “The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disability: The Old and New Paradigm of Disability.” Her scholarly contributions underscore her commitment to advancing knowledge and informing policy in critical areas of human rights and social justice. Gladys Emmanuel continues to be a driving force in the fight for equality and justice, leveraging her expertise to create a more equitable and just society for all.
