Osimhen Ends Goal Drought in Napoli Victory over Monza

Super Eagles and Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen, was on the scoresheet for Napoli as the Italian champions claimed a 4-2 win over Monza in the  Serie A.

The 25-year-old had not found the back of the net since the end of February when he scored a hat-trick against Sassuolo and will be relieved to have found his scoring magic.

Following Napoli’s 0-3 loss to Ademola Lookman’s Atalanta, Osimhen retained his spot in the starting line-up as they travelled to the U-Power Stadium.

The hosts took the lead through Milan Djuric as he headed home from a brilliant inviting cross from Allessio Zerbin.

Napoli levelled the scores ten minutes into the second half. Cameroon’s Frank Zambo-Anguissa sent a cross into the Monza box with Osimhen rising highest to nod the ball into the back of the net for his 12th League goal of the season.

Die Partonepei took the lead two minutes after the equaliser.

It was goal-of-the-season contender strike as Matteo Politano hammered the kick beyond the reach of Monza’s goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio.

Three minutes later, Piotr Zielinski scored Napoli’s third. Kvhicha Kvaratskhelia’s shot was blocked, but the Georgian laid the ball to Zielinski at the second time of asking, and the Polish International sent the ball home off the underside of the cross-bar.

Andrea Calponi immediately pulled one back for Monza in what was a frantic affair before Giacomo Raspadori added Napoli’s fourth to seal all three points for Francesco Calzona’s men.

Napoli recorded their first win in over a month of football, with  Osimhen returning to winning ways. The former Lille man has now scored 12 league goals and created three more in 19 league games this season.
