Hammer House Records, in collaboration with SG Musik Group recently announced the signing of gospel music artiste Meme Umukoro, professionally known as Meme Rise at a formal event held at Radisson Blu, Ikeja, Lagos.
The announcement coincided with the release of her first single ‘Wonderful Wonder,’ a praise title that sees the singer shine with soaring and empowering vocals. The single marks her first under the union between both outfits. It was rolled out with a music video and also featured gospel powerhouse singer Eben (born Emmanuel Benjamin), who also helms Hammer House Records.
With a singing background developed in her local church choir, Meme Rise gradually became a household name in Edo State, where she was born and educated up to the tertiary level. The singer revealed that her songs were inspired by times of tribulations and how she overcame them. She also provided insight into her creative process, her long-term goals for relevancy in the music industry, and her secret to a sprouting career.
“Music is about hard work. It takes your time, a lot of rehearsals and resources, and it takes a lot of you being in His presence. You cannot talk about gospel music and not talk about His presence. It is so important. You stay in His presence and you get something from him,” she said.
The artist further disclosed that she would remain a choir member of Voice of Freedom Ministry, considering it a service to the Supreme One. Meme Rise’s works were highly spoken of by both Andrew Moses, a representative of SG Musik, and Eben, with both expressing confidence in her career’s upward trajectory.
“Meme is somebody who served in her local church for 12 years. Many times, you see people come out and they just don’t want to serve. She is somebody who is tested and tried, and that’s how this radar found her,” Eben noted.
