Medic West Africa 2024: Day 1 Recap – Redefining Healthcare Delivery in West Africa
The energy crackled in the air today at the Landmark Centre in Lagos as the 11th edition of the Medic West Africa Exhibition and Conference kicked off!
With a focus on the future of healthcare in West Africa, Day 1 delivered a dynamic mix of insightful presentations, engaging workshops, and a vibrant exhibition floor. Industry leaders, innovators, and healthcare professionals from across the region converged at the event, fostering a dynamic environment for collaboration and knowledge exchange, and the adoption of technological innovation.
From the conclusion of Day 1 activities, this year’s event is delivering on its promise to be a turning point for West Africa’s healthcare landscape.
Key Highlights from Day 1:
The HFN Healthcare Leadership Conference began the day with impactful sessions based on the theme of “Optimizing Emergency Care Delivery: Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain”.
It featured engaging discussions exploring crucial topics such as innovations and challenges in emergency care; equity, preparedness, and collaborative resource allocations in crisis; private sector opportunities in emergency care; and emergency preparedness and disaster management: Lessons learned and future directions, amongst others.
Experts shared valuable insights on optimizing healthcare delivery for better patient outcomes and the keynote address titled “Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain with a Focus on Emergency Care” was presented by Dr. Abdu Mukhtar, the National Coordinator of the Presidential Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain initiative.
There were also goodwill messages from key government representatives and stakeholders including Dr Salma Ibrahim Anas, Special Adviser to the President on Health; Prof. Akin Abayomi, Commissioner of Health, Lagos; Lynda Decker, Vice-President West Africa, Private Healthcare Federation (WAPHF/FOASPS); and Pharm Ahmed I Yakasai, Founder/CEO, Pharmaplus, Former President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, and Founder/Chairman, Safe Medicines Foundation.
Dr Salma Ibrahim Anas, Special Adviser to the President on Health commented: “It gives me great joy and pleasure to attend this important event representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This administration attaches great importance to healthcare development, especially concerning how we can improve and change the trajectory of the health sector and how we can reverse the trend of local manufacturing of medical equipment and pharmaceuticals including vaccines in Nigeria. We are partners with you in this journey of success. We know this will not be achieved in one day but the most important thing is to prioritise it, and it is one of the key priorities of this administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda ”
Other highlights from the day included a vibrant exhibition floor as leading medical equipment manufacturers, pharmaceutical companies, and service providers showcased their latest advancements in healthcare equipment and solutions. This allowed visitors to gain firsthand experience with cutting-edge technologies poised to transform healthcare practices across West Africa. In addition, throughout the day, attendees actively participated in networking events, forging valuable connections that will undoubtedly lead to future collaborations and partnerships.
This was supported by insightful seminars and workshops including a Quality and Patient Safety Workshop held in collaboration with the Society for Quality in Healthcare in Nigeria titled “Advancing Healthcare Excellence: A Certificate Workshop on Quality, Patient Safety and Healthcare Standards” and a Healthcare Investment Workshop held in partnership with ABC Health titled “Healthcare Investments in Africa – Mobilizing Private Sector to Drive Healthcare Investments in Africa”.
