Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has approved the reintroduction of the monthly sanitation exercise throughout the state.

Already the government has released the sum of N1.2billion for the purchase of equipment that will facilitate the exercise.

The last administration as a result of lack of political will allowed the exercise to die, resulting in most open spaces in the state capital being turned to refuse dumping sites.

The Director-General of the Niger State Environmental Protection Agency, Alhaji Abubakar Mohammed, who confirmed the latest development to journalists in Minna, said: “Very soon, the governor will flag off the exercise.”

Mohammed, who did not give details of the plan asked the people of the state to be prepared for a new monthly sanitation exercise, saying that people should voluntarily clean their environment.

He said the agency is service driven, and as such, it has now all hands on the deck for better service

The DG hinted that fines may be imposed on people and communities who failed to support the exercise when revived.
