Storytelling Is My Life and Style – Hibreed, AfroFusion Star
Shonukan Yaya Babatunde, known as Hibreed, believes that storytelling is the heart of his music and should be a primary style for Nigerian artists. He emphasizes that storytelling brings depth and energy to his craft. “What makes my music unique is its blend of traditional Afrobeat
rhythms with modern, global influences.
I draw from my Nigerian roots while incorporating elements from different cultures and genres I’ve encountered throughout my travels. My storytelling is deeply personal, often reflecting real-life experiences, emotions, and growth,
which allows me to connect with my audience on a deeper level.”
“My biggest achievement as an artist so far has been building a loyal and growing fan base that connects with my music personally. Every performance, every song release that resonates with listeners feels like a victory. Seeing people vibe to my music, whether at live shows or online, is
incredibly fulfilling. While I’m still on my journey, knowing that my sound is reaching and impacting lives is a significant accomplishment.”
Hibreed also spoke about his upcoming projects. “I’m planning to release a song that reflects on navigating life with calmness and caution amidst pressure. It highlights how everything destined
for you will eventually come if you have patience.
For this project, I’ve collaborated with talented producers and fellow musicians who helped bring the vision to life. Their input, from crafting the
beat to refining the lyrics, was crucial in shaping the final sound. The song carries a smooth, reflective vibe, aiming to inspire anyone facing challenges to trust the timing of their journey.”
When asked about future collaborations, Hibreed said, “Absolutely, I have plans to collaborate
with other artists. I believe that collaborations inject fresh energy and creativity into music. I would love to work with both Nigerian and international artists who inspire me. Collaborating
with Afrobeat legends like Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid, and Olamide would be a dream come true, as they’ve significantly influenced my sound. I’m also eager to explore genre-blending
opportunities, as working with artists from different musical backgrounds would be an exciting
way to push creative boundaries.”
