A Civil Society Organisation, Peoples Development Network(PDN), has said that the allegations making the rounds about the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Sonny Echonu is baseless and malicious.
It also said that the litany of baseless attacks on the agency may not be ending any time soon.
PDN Public Relations Officer, Ajibade Daniel made this known in a statement made available to THISDAY.
The agency under its current leadership had recently been under fire from different organisations alleging mismanagement and misappropriation of funds running into billions of naira.
According to Ajibade, “In continuation of their sinister plot to illegally incite the removal of Executive Secretary of TETFUND, Sonny Echonu, the detractors will likely attack the Agency’s research programmes and Academic Staff training next.
“They know what they are doing as they are aware and informed on the operations of the Agency. It is easy to mislead and misinform the public who are not intimated on the processes of the Agency.
“Everyone knows that TETFund faithfully implements disbursement guidelines as approved by the President in relation to both physical and content components of their interventions.
“We have followed the issue very closely, and reports by some segments of the media have shown that they are available tools in the ongoing attempt to destroy the Agency. It is clear that TETFund is currently under siege by desperate office seekers.
Speaking further, Ajibade said some media platforms had been very biased in their reportage, and what they were doing was not journalism. He questioned why medium would claim the Executive Secretary of the Agency had been detained by ICPC while he was not even invited shows clearly that there is a destructive motive behind the numerous reportage.
