NOGIC 2024: TotalEnergies Grabs Gold in Chess, Scrabble, Tennis

TotalEnergies Nigeria made a strong impact at the recently concluded 19th Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Games (NOGIC 2024) held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja by amassing gold, silver and bronze medals in several sporting events at the weeklong sporting fiesta.
The outstanding performance was led by Chimaobi Mgbokwere, won the gold medal in Chess’ Men Single event.
Other gold medalists were Reni Orioke, (Scrabble, Female Singles event) and Ejehiwease Effiong (Tennis, Women’s Veteran).
The silver medals were won by Sandra Odinakachukwu, Saheed Ogunsanya & Kola Eke in 8-Ball Pool, Team event and Isaac Okuma, Tony Obijuru, Rukevwe Oghiagbepha & Jolomi Sunday in Athletics, 4X100m Relay for men. Ejehiwease Effiong also won a silver medal in Women’s Singles Tennis event and with Susan Namuganyi in the Women’s Doubles.
TotalEnergies also garnered 13 bronze medals through Nkese Umoren, (Athletics, 100m Women); Naomi Babalola, (Athletics, 200m Women); Nkese Umoren, Reni Orioke, Precious Vincent and Kate Ogu (Athletics, 4X100m Relay Women); Daniel Omolewa & Ogtay Rahmanov (Badminton, Men’s Doubles); Ogtay Rahmanov (Badminton, Men’s Veteran); Chimaobi Mgbokwere, Prince Emelike & Cynthia Chigere (Chess, Team) and Emmanuel Egbele, Ezinna Ogbuokiri & Ugonma Dennis-Akano (Scrabble, Team).
Others were Ejehiwease Effiong (Squash, Women’s Veteran); Tamaramiebi Ogu (Swimming, Backstroke Women); Goddy Ukofia (Table Tennis, Men Singles); Olukayode Adeyeri (Table Tennis, Men’s Veteran); Sandra Odinakachukwu & Susan Namuganyi (Table Tennis, Women’s Team).
The volleyball team comprising Enyebuchi Obulor, Adolphous Akwumakwuhie, Iyke Ekurume, Samson Onche, Emmanuel Adewuyi, Samuel Oni, Mmeme Abeka, Tony Obijuru, Obunike Ezeife, Lotanna Nwodo & Christian El Rahi also won the bronze medal.
Meanwhile, the Country Communications Manager, TotalEnergies Nigeria, Dr Charles Ebereonwu, has lauded the games for impacting on workers in the area of fitness.
The games, with the theme: Empower Wellness, Ignite Productivity featured over 1,500 athletes who participated in 13 sporting events.
“The key impact of the games is the focus on wellness; trying to connect the nexus between fitness and productivity. The most important purpose of it is to keep fit to be able to do the work productively. Apart from that these games provide opportunity for networking, for people to leave their places of work and come and relax not in sense of being idle but socialise, interact and exchange contact in the overall best interest of our industry,” Ebereonwu said.
He stressed the objectives of the games had also achieved and even surpassed with many workers winning medals in different sports which is an indication they can multitask in industrial work places.
“These games have thrown up a lot of opportunities for potentials and we are seeing more”.
In the future NOGIC, Ebereonwu said, TotalEnergies will continue to place emphasis on safety which is a core value, ensure better preparation and assess other areas that need improvement, including infrastructure.
