Shrine Records Unveils Rising Star, Eze Blaq
After being nudged by family and friends to pursue a career in music, the COVID-19 pandemic gave Obinna Onuoha enough time to reflect on what career path to take. He took a chance on himself, and ever since, the rest is music history.
Famed as Eze Blaq, the new kid on the block who was recently signed to Shrine Records, a record label based in the U.S with an eye for spotting new talents, noted that his musical journey started in the four walls of his secondary school, entertaining his classmates with his songwriting skills and lyricism back in 2019.
“Music has always been a part of my soul,” Eze Blaq recalled. “During sports events at school, I would perform, and a teacher once called me ‘the singer’. That stuck with me, and it was clear what I needed to do—sing, because it’s not just what I do, it’s who I am. In 2020, my friends encouraged me to pursue music more seriously. It was then I truly embraced my path.”
Handpicked by Godwin Jukpor, the CEO of Shrine Records revealed that he saw his own struggles mirrored in Blaq’s story: Growing up on the tough streets of Surulere, Lagos. He explained that Eze Blaq’s authenticity and raw talent remind him of “What it means to fight for your dreams.”
“Blaq’s music catches your ear, but he’s raw and real, which is why we took a chance on him. Our mission at Shrine Records is to elevate talents like him to platforms where they can shine even brighter,” said Jukpor.
Founded in 2024, Shrine Records not only aims to propel musicians like Blaq into the limelight but also plans to cultivate a nurturing ground for hidden gems in entertainment, ranging from music to comedy.
With so much passion and resilience by both Blaq and Shrine Records, the union is poised to elevate Blaq to become the next musical sensation while serving as a symbol of hope for every young artiste’s dream.
