How Rotary Int’l Leverages Technology to Address Local Needs

Rotary International District 9110 has explained how the charitable and Non-governmental Organisation (NGO), is leveraging technology to execute its various service projects in Nigeria that have addressed the local needs of majority of people and communities.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, to announce its next district conference in Abeokuta, Ogun State, the District 9110 Governor, Rotarian Ifeyinwa Rita Ejezie, said technology has helped them to speed up processes in their various project executions and has helped in successfully completing such projects in record time across Lagos and Ogun states.

“Technology has helped us to partner seamlessly with physicians that are specialised in mental health from America and from across the globe, to organise hybrid webinar, where they educated Nigerians on mental health issues, which is one of our eight areas of focus for the year. We are also leveraging the global radio of District 9110 to communicate real time to a global audience and local audiences about our humanitarian activities that are touching lives. We are also leveraging on social media in educating the public and for mass publicity of our activities.

This year, we have partnered with eye doctors in Nigeria to carry out over 3,000 cataracts eye surgeries free of charge in Lagos and Ogun states and several fibroid operations for women, while using modern technology equipment for the health sector. Last year, we flew in 50 medical consultants from America in partnership with Rotary to perform various surgeries in 10 hospitals in Lagos and Ogun states for one month, using the latest equipment supported by emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Blockchain technologies,” Ejezie said.    

Speaking about the conference, tagged ‘Actualisation Conference’, Ejezie said the conference would enable the NGO to look at its stewardship for the year, and to re-strategise on its goal of touching lives and humanity.

According to her, during the conference, two new districts, District 9111 and District 9112 will be created out of District 9110, and their governors unveiled, a development that will bring to an end, the existence of District 9110 in Nigeria, after the Rotarian year, which ends June 30^th 2024.
