Shettima Presides over NEC Meeting

Vice-President Kashim Shettima is presently presiding over the 141st edition of the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting at the State House, Abuja. 

The Council, a statutory body mandated to advise the president on the nation’s economic affairs, is comprised of the vice-president, governors of the 36 states of the federation, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Minister of Finance, and other stakeholders. 

Some state governors and deputies are attending the meeting holding at the Council Chambers.

The ongoing meeting marks a break from the last three consecutive virtual meetings to physical gathering.

At its last meeting on March 21, 2024, NEC received reports from 16 state governors expressing their support for establishing state police and also recommended changes to the constitution to allow for smooth establishment.
