In a landmark ruling, the High Court of Port Harcourt presided over by Hon. Justice C.N. Wali, has convicted Chief Bebe Okpabi to two months imprisonment without an option of fine for contempt of court in the case of HRH Appolus Chu Vs. Chief Bebe Okpabi (PHC/3032/CS/2023 FCN/).

The case, which has been a subject of interest in the Eleme Kingdom, revolves around the dispute over the Oneh Eh Nchia stool, with King Dr. Appolus Chu declaring the authentic Oneh Eh Nchia the X of Eleme Kingdom.

In a judgment delivered on May 16, 2024, the court found Chief Bebe Okpabi guilty of contempt of court, citing his persistent disregard for the authority of the court and his attempts to undermine the judicial process.

The court also issued a bench warrant for Chief Bebe Okpabi’s immediate arrest, ensuring that he will serve his sentence accordingly.

This ruling marks a significant milestone in the long-standing dispute and serves as a reminder of the importance of respecting the rule of law and the authority of the court.

With this conviction, Chief Bebe Okpabi will serve two months in prison, and will not have the option to pay a fine instead of his sentence. The ruling is final and binding and demonstrates the court’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the judicial process.
