Joseph Afolabi’s Multifaceted Career From Cybersecurity to Currency Exchange

Joseph Afolabi’s career is a remarkable journey that spans from the realms of cybersecurity to the complexities of currency exchange. His diverse professional experiences reflect a man driven by curiosity, a passion for problem-solving, and an unyielding dedication to innovation.

He began his career in an entirely different field as an intern at British American Tobacco in Ibadan. Here, he managed and maintained machines, recording their daily functions. This role, though grounded in the mechanical world, taught him valuable lessons about precision and attention to detail.

“Every experience adds value,” Afolabi says. “The skills I gained during my internship have been useful in every role I’ve taken on since.”

His next career move took him into the digital frontier as a Cyber Security Analyst at Commercio Limited. In this role, Joseph worked with major companies, including Fidelity Bank, to identify and prevent potential security threats.

His work involved conducting vulnerability assessments and implementing measures to protect critical data. “Cybersecurity was a fascinating challenge,” Afolabi recounted. “It’s about staying one step ahead of potential threats and ensuring the safety of digital information.”

This experience in cybersecurity broadened Afolabi’s understanding of the tech world and honed his analytical skills. However, his entrepreneurial spirit soon led him to a new venture. In 2018, he founded Finlogic Nigeria Limited, a company specialising in the exchange of Nigerian Naira to Chinese Yuan.

Starting and leading a company in the financial sector required a different set of skills, but Joseph was ready for the challenge.

“Transitioning from cybersecurity to finance was a big leap,” he admitted. “But I saw a need for a reliable currency exchange service between Nigeria and China, and I knew I could make a difference.”

Under his leadership, Finlogic has grown steadily, employing six people and reporting a net revenue of $270,000 in 2022. His ability to innovate and lead has been key to this success.

Afolabi’s educational background has been instrumental in his career. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, and a Private Pilot License from Moncton Flight College Canada . These qualifications have given
