The Group Managing Director (GMD) of Chemstar Group, Mr. Adedayo Paseda, has called for a sound and healthy environment for its workforce.
Paseda made this known at the 2024 Chemstar Industries Limited Health and Safety Week, themed, ‘Personal Health and Workplace Safety in a Challenging Economy’, in Lagos.
The Health and Safety Week is an annual programme of Chemstar Group, aimed at broadening the knowledge of members of staff on how to live a healthy lifestyle, keep their body fit and the environment safe.
He explained to staff that inspite of the stressful economy and challenges, they need to stay safe and healthy rather than spend unnecessarily on their health.
The GMD restated the organisation’s commitment to enhance the safety and welfare of the workers, saying that as its major priority, it considered it worthy to ensure a healthy and valuable workforce.
Activities for the week-long programme, which coincided with its 29th founder’s day anniversary, include; health talk by Oluseye Osunkalu, a Professor of Haematology and Blood Transfusion at the College of Medicine University of Lagos (CMUL), medical check, HMO enlightenment; safety and nutrition talk, fire talk and demonstration by the Lagos State Fire Service.
Prof Osunkalu advised the staff to live a healthy lifestyle and maintain quality living and a safe environment.
“Prevention is better than cure,” he said.
The Managing Director of Matrag Foods Limited, Dr. Tunde Olaniya, said the week was introduced to create awareness among the staff to take their health seriously, particularly to promote healthy living and safe working environment.
According to him, “the HMO enlightenment was to better educate the staff about the health policy that was introduced by the organisation two years ago, especially its benefits and to interface with the HMO officials on how to further engage their services.”
He emphasised on the fire talk and demonstration, saying that it is crucial to the safety of the organisation and workers in the area of prevention and how fire incidents could be avoided or prevented.
The Chief Fire Officer/Head Fire and Rescue Unit of LASBCA, Mrs. Funmilayo Johnson-Agiri commended the management for being safety conscious and partnering with the state fire service on the week.
She stressed the need for investments on workplace safety, adding that the organisation should employ fire safety marshals, who should be regularly trained.
“A safe working environment is important and crucial for the company’s success and personnel well-being.”
