Ningi Resumes from Suspension amidst Rousing Welcome from Colleagues

The Peoples Democratic Party federal lawmaker representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Abdul Ningi, has resumed legislative duties in the upper chamber after serving an 11-week suspension.

Ningi was suspended on March 12th, 2024 for three months over budget padding claims.

The lawmaker was recalled on May 28, after the Deputy Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, expressed regret on behalf of Sen. Ningi and pledged to assume full responsibility for his actions, acknowledging the gravity of the suspension.

Ningi who resumed plenary on Tuesday, thanked his colleagues, the government of Bauchi State and Nigerians for their support during his suspension.

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, in his remarks welcomed Ningi and described him as a valuable member of the Senate.

The Senate had on Tuesday last week on the strength of a motion sponsored by the minority leader, Senator Abba Moro, on behalf of   minority caucus, recalled Senator Ningi from the three-month suspension.

Apparently elated to be back in the Senate, Ningi was among the first set of Senators and House of Representatives members to arrive the National Assembly for plenary on Tuesday.

Ningi, along with some few other senators like Suleiman Kawu (NNPP Kano South), Aminu Waziri Tambuwal (PDP Sokoto South), among others, came into the National Assembly through the Villa Gate.

They arrived exactly at 10: 40am, 20 minutes to 11:00am fixed for commencement of plenary which even started at about 12:10 pm.

As a result of his suspension, Ningi lost his Chairmanship position of the Senate Committee on National Identity and Population, which was allocated to Senator Mustapha Musa (APC Yobe East), two days after the now lifted suspension
