IFI WID: Interior Designers Tasked to Drive Social Change

Interior Designers have been reminded of their importance to societal change and economic development at an occasion marking 36th  IFI World Interiors Day, (IFI WID), in Lagos, recently.

The event put together by Interior Designers Association of Nigeria (IDAN), converged professionals, experts, and enthusiasts who charted paths to the growth of the sector, in line with the objectives of the day.

President of IDAN,Dr. Jenifer  Chukwujekwe while speaking on the theme of the day,  “The Growing Generational Gap: Improved Multi-Generational Future”, stressed the importance of designs in bridging  communication gaps between different age groups.

Chukwujekwe charged professionals to be more intentional about their design principles, while reiterating expectations from the discipline to birth change in the society through design advocacy.

Similar to her thoughts, panelists who dissected the sector and theme of the day emphasised inclusive design as being crucial to fostering generational coexistence, diversity and plug existing gaps.

In her keynote address, Ogun state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Motunrayo Adijat maintained that the role of design transcends fostering and promoting an inclusive multigenerational future.

She said,  “The impact speaks to a greater community and sustainable environment. Using eco-friendly materials and energy efficient technologies can reduce environmental impacts. Designs are capable of creating healthier-living spaces for generations to come.

“By focusing on inclusive designs, individuals and groups can be empowered to contribute meaningfully to the environment and economy at large. This empowerment fosters a sense of belonging and purpose which is essential for a harmonious multi-generational coexistence”.

In his remarks, Public Relations Officer of IDAN, Mr. Andrew Adeniji encouraged  practicing Interior Design Professionals to belong to an association to enable them to be abreast of trends and enhance their expertise.

The event well attended  by experts spanning different sectors also had input of key industry partners, including Interstyle homes by  interstyle ceramics group, Actiu by Fouani brand, problinds company, as well as the VIP lounge sponsors, Furniture Square.

The roll call from the event also expressed the interest and enthusiasm for interiors design and the constructed environment at large.
