Edo Education Week 2024: Education Champions Feted At Ministry’s Legacy Awards Dinner

It was a gathering of eagles at the state banquet in honour of the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation and Education Legacy Awards. As part of activities to mark Education Week 2024, the Ministry of Education under the leadership of Dr Joan Osa-Oviawe hosted the Education Legacy Awards dinner to honour individuals, organisations, foundations and associations who have contributed immensely to the growth and development of the nation’s landscape not just in Edo State but across the continent.

The Legacy Awards also had in attendance H.E Governor Godwin Obaseki, H.E Dr Mrs Betsy Obaseki, H.E Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR. GCON, H.E Uhuru Kenyatta, H.E Thomas Boni Yayi amongst other education stakeholders, government officials, and the evening’s honorees.

Commissioner for Education, Dr Joan Osa-Oviawe, delivered a stirring welcome remark, emphasising the importance of recognizing the tireless efforts of those who shape the future through education.

“This evening is a celebration of excellence,” declared Dr. Joan Osa-Oviawe. “We honour individuals who have gone above and beyond, inspiring students to reach their full potential.”

The evening’s program featured the presentation of awards across several categories, recognizing outstanding contributions from Philanthropists, Foundations and Associations including:
General TY Danjuma GCON Sen. Daisy Danjuma, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, PhD, Prince (Dr.) Peter and Princess Vivian Okojie, Dr. Godfrey and Mrs. Gina Ekhomu, Mr. Austine and Mrs. Ejodamen Omobhude, Mr. Anthony Ogunbor, Mrs. Angela Jide Jones, Dr. Aderemi Makanjuola, Okonofua Foundation, M and G Etomi Foundation, Rosula Foundation and Emotan Old Pupils Association.

Others are, Edo College Old Boys Association, Annunciation Catholic College Irrua Old Boys Association, St. Maria Goretti Old Girls Association, Idia College Old Girls Association, Idia College Alumni North America, Ugbeka College Old Students Association, Ogbona School Management Board, Idia College School Management Board, Anglican Girls’ Grammar School School Management Board, MTN Nigeria, Rubber Estate Nigeria Limited, SEPLAT, Presco PLC and Association of Chinese Community

The awards also featured a captivating address by His Excellency, Goodluck Jonathan, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who offered insightful perspectives on the future of education.

His Excellency, Governor Godwin Obaseki in his address reiterated the state’s commitment to ensuring a brighter future through educational investments.

The Education Legacy Awards Dinner not only celebrates past accomplishments but also serves as a beacon of hope for the future.
