CESEL – Concerto JV Receives Grant From the REA, Funded by the World Bank

In a significant milestone, the CESEL-Concerto Joint Venture has been awarded the Performance Based Grant (PBG) by the Nigerian Rural Electrification Agency (REA), funded by the World Bank. This recognition comes on the heels of the successful commissioning of four Solar Hybrid Mini-Grid Projects in Osun State, Nigeria, in October 2023.

The REA’s support is a testament to their commitment to achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7) – affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all by 2030. The project’s success is also a direct result of strategic collaborations between the REA, CESEL-Concerto JV, and other partners, highlighting the importance of Sustainable Development Goal 17 (SDG17).

The CESEL-Concerto Mini-Grid project has achieved remarkable milestones, from technical commissioning in October 2023 to a grand commissioning event in January 2024, graced by esteemed dignitaries, including the Ooni of Ife and the Osun State Governor. The completed 150kw solar hybrid mini-grids now provide reliable electricity to over 1,200 households in off-grid locations, significantly reducing energy poverty in Nigeria.

Dr. Patrick Tolani, CEO of CESEL, emphasized the transformative impact of the project, stating, “The completed mini-grid project has fostered economic growth and transformed lives. We appreciate our partners, the World Bank and Rural Electrification Agency, for their critical role in this success.”

Mr. ‘Lare Daramola, Chair of the CESEL-Concerto JV, expressed gratitude to the World Bank and REA, acknowledging their support, partnership, and oversight. He also commended the sterling leadership of REA’s Managing Director and CEO, Mr. Abba Aliyu. The grant is a testament to the JV’s commitment to providing reliable and clean electricity to underserved communities.

The CESEL-Concerto JV remains dedicated to supporting Sustainable Development Goals and expanding access to clean energy across Nigeria, working collaboratively with local communities, government agencies, and international partners.
