APC Calls for Credible LG Polls in Delta

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has enjoined the state government to deliver credible local government elections in the state next month.

A chieftain of the party, Chief Ayirimi Emami, and other stakeholders made the appeal Wednesday while distributing T-shirts and other campaign materials to party members in Warri South Local Government Area of the state.

He assured the people that the party would coast to victory in Warri South, Warri South West and Warri North if the elections were transparent.

Emami further charged members of the party to embark on aggressive campaigns ahead of the July election.

“All our candidates in Warri (Warri South, Warri South West and Warri North) must go out to campaign. The fear is that the state government may want to write results. This is why we are yearning for local government autonomy. Everything must go well,” he said.

The Chairman of the party in Warri South Local Government, Mr Mario Owumi, appealed for a level playing field, noting that the party won in the local government in the House of Assembly and Delta South senatorial election conducted last year.

He said the APC would win again in the council elections, appealing to the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission, (DSIEC) to conduct a transparent exercise.

“We want a free election. The governor should give a level playing field. We all saw the results in the last election in the House of Assembly and the Senate, the APC won. Our candidate is the best person for the job,” he said.

The chairmanship candidate of the party in Warri South Local Government Area, Prince Francis Yonwuren, said the party was very optimistic it would win, promising to operate a transparent government when elected chairman of the council.

“I am very prepared for the election. I will not disappoint the people when elected. I will run a transparent government,” he added.
