In a world where opportunities are often limited by circumstance, John Mathias Etim is on a mission to empower lives and build futures.

As the Chairman of the John M ETIM Foundation, he has dedicated his life to creating a lasting impact in the lives of others. With a heart full of compassion and a mind full of vision, Etim is transforming communities and inspiring a new generation of leaders. 

Growing up in a large family with limited resources, Etim experienced firsthand the challenges that many face in accessing necessities like healthcare and education. But despite these obstacles, he remained committed to making a difference.

“I knew that I wanted to be a source of support for others, to ease their pain and provide the opportunities that I once wished for,” he recalled.

“My upbringing taught me the importance of creating opportunities and providing support to others. I am driven by the mission to help and impact as many people as possible, without regard to ethnicity or religion, focusing instead on the humanity that connects us all.”

Today, the John M ETIM Foundation is a testimony to John’s unwavering dedication to philanthropy. From building a state-of-the-art sports complex to providing financial capacity-building programmes, mental health support, and dental care, the foundation’s impact is multifaceted and far-reaching.

“We believe in empowering individuals, improving communities, and inspiring others to give back,” Etime explained.

“Our goal is to provide the necessary breathing room for individuals to thrive, regardless of their circumstances”, he added. 

One of the foundation’s flagship programmes is its Financial Capacity Building Programme, which provides grants and zero-interest loans to small businesses. “We want to foster economic growth and stability within the community,” he noted.
To date, the programme has serviced over 4,000 loans, ranging from 30,000 naira to 2 million naira.

‘We believe in building individuals to build the nation,” John adds. “By supporting small businesses, we are creating a ripple effect of economic growth and stability”, Etim said. 
In addition to economic empowerment, the foundation is also committed to improving healthcare and wellness.

“We believe that everyone deserves access to quality healthcare, regardless of their circumstances,” Etim shared.

The foundation’s mental health centre provides comprehensive support services, including counselling and therapy, to address various mental health issues. “Mental well-being is crucial, and its neglect can have significant psychological effects,” he said, adding, “We want to create a more confident and socially active community.”
 
Etim’s passion for philanthropy is contagious, inspiring others to join him in making a positive impact. “We want to create a ripple effect of kindness, compassion, and empowerment,” he said.

And as the foundation continues to grow and evolve, John remains committed to his vision of a brighter future for all. “I hope that someday, people will say, “No matter how little it was, he laid his footprint, and through one or more of his programs, I am where I am today. That will be my legacy – a legacy of lasting impact and positive change”, Etim added.
