The Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has outlined its organizational strategic action plan for 2024-2028, focusing on enhancing monitoring, evaluation, and performance reporting to bolster its anti-corruption efforts.

The commission aims to build on the achievements of its previous strategic plan to improve oversight and accountability.

The commission’s spokesperson, Demola Bakare, emphasized this during a senior management retreat organized by the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) programme phase 2.

He highlighted that robust performance monitoring is a critical aspect of the new strategic action plan.

Bakare noted that reinforcing the capacity of the senior management team is essential to strengthen the commission’s oversight and administrative functions.

He stated, “ Monitoring our activities—such as investigations, prosecutions, public enlightenment, system study, and review—is crucial to delivering on our strategic action plan commitments effectively.”

The new strategic plan has expanded from three to five strategic objectives, with each department clearly assigned specific responsibilities.

This clarity, according to Bakare, will enhance implementation, monitoring, and evaluation processes, ensuring better performance outcomes.

A facilitator and the monitoring and evaluation officer for RoLAC, Odey Joshua, underscored the importance of supporting anti-corruption agencies.

He highlighted the challenges posed by the complexity of corruption and the advancement of technology, stressing the need for continuous training and capacity building to equip the ICPC to effectively combat corruption.

“ Given the complexity of corruption and the technological advancements, it is crucial to enhance the capacity of institutions to fulfill their mandates effectively,”

“Continuous training and support are key to meeting the high standards required to fight corruption efficiently.” He said.
