Sanwo-Olu, Abiodun, Others  Pay Tribute to  Augusta Olujoke Davies at Funeral 

The governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and his Ogun counterpart, Dr Dapo Abiodun were among dignitaries on the roll call as Madam Augusta Olujoke Davies ( nee Oluwole) was laid to rest in Lagos, recently. 

Olujoke, the widow of late  nationalist, Chief H. O Davies died May 11, 2024. She was aged 90.

She was buried shortly after a funeral service  in her honour at Olowogbowo  Methodist Church,Lagos,Island. The service was presided by the Archbishop of Lagos Diocese, Methodist Church Nigeria, Most Revd Dr. Isaac Ayobami Olawuyi.

In his exhortation,  Olawuyi said Olujoke’s evergreen legacy on earth lives on  in death, just as he emphasised the need for a goldly life in a transient world.

He said the deceased would be remembered for her acts of benevolence and service to God. 

In his tribute, Abiodun said the life and times of the deceased was a confirmation of the fact there are no coincidences with God. 

“That she eventually married the man who read out her name on the day of her christening is yet an  evidence that God  ordains man’s steps and future, and that life is not a coincidence.

“Life is good by the impact we make, number of lives touched, service and generousity. 

 Mama ticked all these boxes. She  was God’s loving and God’ serving”, he said.

Sanwo-Olu who was represented by Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Barr. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin described the deceased as a lifelong learner. 

He said the deceased decision to return to school at 79 to learn computer is worth emulating and to say that no one is too old to learn. 

“Her unmatched contributions will remain indelible in the lives of those she has touched. She  was  charismatic lady, pillar of strength and an advocate of the downtrodden. May God grant her eternal repose”, she prayed. 

Also, One of the deceased grandchildren, Kemi Adegbola said, ” She was an embodiment of love, kindness and generosity. She is the best cook I’ve ever known. I will miss her jollof rice”
