Collaboration with Burna Boy will be incredible, says Bims after latest single “Amapiano”
Afro-fusion music artist known as Bims but born Israel Lagbokun Olawale has expressed his love and admiration for the widely acclaimed “African Giant”, Burna Boy, saying a collaboration with him will be “incredible”. Bims who is enjoying a relative success in his own neck of the wood and trending massively on streaming platforms with his latest single “Amapiano” has some things in common with the “Ye” crooner, in terms of their journey and music.
“I don’t look up to anyone in the industry per se, but I do have inspirations, and Burna Boy is
one of them. His journey and artistry have been influential, and a collaboration with him
would be incredible. He represents a level of excellence and authenticity that I admire and
strive for in my own music, he states in a chat with Thisdaylive.
The 3ple Threat Entertainment signee is not a greenhorn in the music realm, he has enjoyed respectable success as an artist. He has garnered over one million streams across various platforms, a milestone that speaks to his growing popularity and the impact of his music.
“I have many memorable experiences as an artist, but a few stand out. Writing songs for
Ckay and Mayorkun that made it to the top ten on Apple Music in Nigeria was a huge
milestone. Additionally, seeing artists like Zlatan and Lil Kesh vibing to my songs and sharing them on social media was incredibly rewarding. These moments remind me of how far I’ve come and keep me motivated,” he shares.
His penultimate release in February 2024 titled “Make Una Dance” was a collaboration with legendary Juju maestro, Sir Shina Peters. The experience was particularly significant for Bims, as Sir Shina Peters has been a major influence on his sound. The song combines traditional Afrobeat rhythms with modern beats, creating a dance track that is both nostalgic and contemporary.
Like Burna Boy, Bims didn’t take the elevator to the land of relevance in the industry. He took the stairs, savoring the joy and pains of every step, popping champaign and crying in silence but nevertheless keeping the fire burning and his eyes on the ball.
“My music journey has been far from smooth, but that’s what makes the successes even
sweeter. One of the major challenges was getting my songs heard by a wider audience. This eagerness drove me to work harder, often producing, mixing, and sometimes even editing my videos myself to expedite the process. It’s been a lot of hard work, but seeing the world
embrace my sound makes it all worthwhile.
“I’m in an incredibly exciting and transformative phase of my career. I’m currently signed to
3ple Threat Entertainment and this has opened up a world of opportunities and resources
that allows me to fully explore and expand my creative vision. This phase is all about growth,
experimentation, and solidifying my presence in the industry. I’m pushing my boundaries and
connecting with my audience on a deeper level — that young kid on the block trying new
things,” he says.
According to him, “What sets me apart in this competitive industry is the unique swagger and charisma I bring to my delivery. There’s a distinctive way I weave my personal experiences into my lyrics and melodies that no one else can replicate. It’s this authenticity and the originality of my sound that makes me stand out. My music is a direct reflection of my life, and that honesty resonates deeply with my audience.”
Bims boasts of an amazing discography that reflects his versatility, creativity, flexibility and depth enshrined in empathy with his audience.
In 2022 he released “Odd Son,” an underground
hit among his core fanbase which showcases
Bims’ ability to blend different musical elements while singing about the struggles faced by a young Nigerian. This song, along with his previous EP “Beyond Your Eyes,” which was released in 2021 highlights his range and ability to convey deep emotions through his music
“Beyond Your Eyes” is a collection of songs that explore various themes, from love
and heartbreak to self-reflection and growth, offering listeners a comprehensive
look into Bims’ artistic journey.
