Chukwu Attends 2nd Session of 5th Synod of the Anglican Church

In the Anglican Communion, the Synod has emerged and consequently recognized as one of the most useful and potent instruments for the governance of the Church and even evangelism in some instances.

It is an annual religious gathering convened to discuss topics like administration, doctrine, faith, and application. And it is increasingly employed to debate on issues that affect the modern Church.

Last Saturday, July 6, 2024, Dr. Ejike Chukwu (MON), an accomplished Imo born entrepreneur, scholar, polished technocrat, philantropist and respected community leader; a true Nigerian patriot and statesman, was among the numerous prominent Imo leaders who attended the second session of the 5th synod of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) Ecclesiastical Province of Owerri Anglican Diocese of Ohaji/Egbema, with the theme: “How Can This Be? The Justification And Meritocracy For Intentional Discipleship (John 3:9).”

The Synod, which started with a high mass, had the following as high points of the religious event; Bible Study, Presidential Address by the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Ohaji/Egbema, His Bondservant, Rt. Rev’D Chidi Collins Oparajiaku, Ph.D, as the cleric emphasized on the need for intentional purpose- driven discipleship and true apostolate, calling on christians and church leaders to live a sin- free life of righteousness according to God’s admonition in John 3:9 which the Bible serves as a sure guide.

Speaking on the topic: “Nation Building, Church As A Unifying Factor” Dr. Ejike Chukwu (MON, FCIA), Founder of Ejike Chukwu Foundation, and a guest speaker at the Synod, called on the Church and government at all levels to initiate people- oriented programs that would ensure peaceful coexistence, harmony and structural development in the Ohaji/Egbema area of Imo State; who, despite being blessed with huge mineral deposits have continued to suffer ontold hardship, negligence and underdevelopment through massive youth unemployment, lack of stable power supply, bad road network, oil spillage that affects farm produce, oil pipeline vandalisation, illegal oil bunckering, and abandoned signature – projects.

Commending the presiding Bishop of Ohaji/ Egbema Anglican Diocese under the Owerri Diocesan Archdeaconry, His Lordship, Bishop Chidi Collins Oparajiaku, Ph.D, whom he described as a forthright man and an outspoken personality for engineering peaceful programs through the church for the people of the area, Dr. Ejike Chukwu, however, lamented on the state of power blackout, lack of portable drinking water in the Ohaji/Egbema, and Oguta oil producing areas.

The broad-minded and soft- speaking polished technocrat, philantropist, and advocate of good governance, Ejike Chukwu, regretted that these oil producing communities that have fed Nigeria and Imo state in the last unbroken 45 years record and their people have continued to lavish in abject poverty, deprivation, negligence and underdevelopment, calling the leadership of the Church , the Imo State government and Federal government, to come to their rescue and savage the ugly situation in the area.

Lending support to the August religious gathering, Dr. Ejike Chukwu (MON, FCIA), on behalf of the Ejike Chukwu Foundation, donated a huge amount of money to support the widows of Ohaji/Egbema Anglican Diocese to the glory of God.

The epoch-making event covered by the Publisher of 4th Estate Reporters, Njoku Macdonald Obinna, has in attendance a number of prominent Imo sons and leaders, which included but was not limited to Sen. Osita Izunaso, representing Imo West Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate, Hon. Eugene Dibiagu, member representing Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta/Oru West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, a former governor of Imo State, H.E Dr. Ikedi Ohakim , Mr. Stanley Amuchie, ace Nigerian Banker,
Hon. Sir. Gideon Meffor, Special Adviser to Governor Hope Uzodimma, Sir. Charles Emelife, Hon.Bright Alozie, among others.
