The Professional Insurance Ladies Association (PILA) is on the brink of a new era, as it prepares to install its 15th president, Abimbola Onakomaiya. With a rich history spanning 51 years, PILA has evolved into a formidable force in the insurance industry, thanks to the dedication of its past presidents.

From its humble beginnings to its current status as a beacon of excellence, PILA has consistently pushed boundaries and shattered glass ceilings.

The organisation has been a trailblazer, paving the way for women in the insurance industry.

Today, PILA boasts a membership of over 1,000 professional women, all united by a shared vision of empowering each other and transforming the industry.

Abimbola Onakomaiya, a seasoned insurance professional with a passion for empowering women, is poised to take PILA to new heights. With a career spanning over two decades, Onakomaiya has been a driving force in the insurance industry, known for her innovative approach and commitment to excellence.

As she prepares to take the reins of PILA come July 18th, Onakomaiya is clear about her vision. “We want to expand our horizon,” she declared during a press conference to annouce the forthcoming investiture event.

“As professional women, we must take our place in this industry. We owe it to ourselves, our families, and our community to make a meaningful impact”, she added.

Onakomaiya’s seven-point agenda is built on the foundation laid by her predecessors, focusing on boosting PILA’s visibility, mentorship, health, corporate social responsibility, and strengthening ties with progressive women in finance.

“We will sign an MOU with United Capital Assets Management to empower our ladies financially,” she explained. “Our partnership with the Nigerian Institute of Estate Surveyors will further strengthen our foundation. We will also focus on health initiatives, expand our corporate social responsibility programmes, including the ‘Adopt an Orphan’ programme, and build alliances with like-minded women in finance”, Onakomaiya said.

The investiture ceremony, scheduled for July 18th, 2024, in Lagos, promises to be a landmark event.

“We have worked tirelessly to ensure the success of this event,” said Dr. Joy Ojemudia, Chairman of the investiture committee. Ojemudia noted further that the event will be a celebration of women’s empowerment, a testament to PILA’s commitment to transforming the insurance industry, and a tribute to our past presidents who paved the way for us.

As PILA embarks on this new chapter, Abimbola Onakomaiya’s vision is clear: to propel women to the forefront of the insurance industry, cement PILA’s position as a driving force in the financial sector, and inspire a new generation of women leaders. With her leadership and the collective efforts of PILA members, the future looks bright for this trailblazing organisation.

The insurance industry is set to witness a transformative era, as PILA under Onakomaiya’s leadership, is poised to break new grounds and set new standards. The association is commitmented to empowering women and transforming the industry  as PILA celebrates this milestone.
