GEL Utility Limited, a flagship asset of Genesis Energy Group, celebrates a remarkable decade of innovation and uninterrupted clean power production in partnership with NNPC Limited. The 10-year partnership between GEL Utility and NNPC Limited has been a resounding success, with the 84MW gas-fired power plant operating seamlessly since 2012. This collaboration has not only met but exceeded expectations, demonstrating the power of partnership in driving positive change.
Simon Shaibu, Managing Director of GEL Utility, emphasized the significance of this milestone: “Our decade-long partnership with NNPC Limited represents a shared commitment to sustainability and economic growth. We have demonstrated the impact of collaboration and strategic expansion, with plans to connect power plants to the grid and extend services to neighboring locations like Onne Ports.”
The power plant’s exemplary safety record, with zero lost time injuries and over a million hours without incident, is a testament to GEL Utility’s dedication to excellence. Additionally, the reduction of GreenHouse Gas emissions by 492,720 tons over the past decade demonstrates the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
GEL Utility made history in 2019 with the first-ever Co-Guarantee instrument from the United States Government through USAID, securing a N13Billion Series-One bond alongside InfraCredit. This achievement enabled pension funds to invest in refinancing the company’s debt, solidifying GEL Utility’s position as a leading provider of off-grid power solutions.
